Being Pragmatic

Does anyone else find it interesting that when submitting research proposals to SSHRC, your proposal needs to include a series of formal steps in your research process, however, according to this week’s readings, Knight says that it’s extremely important to be pragmatic with regard to your research. Knight states that, “Expert researchers are more pragmatic and allow for access difficulties and low response rates and know how they might adapt their plans if need be.” This evidently seems very important, but it makes me think that amendment reports must be sent to SSHRC very often, as I can’t imagine many research projects go as planned.

What do you guys think?
